Prescription eyewear

Before you make your order with eyeweardirect.co.uk you need to have a copy of your prescription. If you have one from an eye test taken within the last two years*,or one year if you're 70 or over you can use that. If you need a new prescription then you can either come to our opticians or one more local to where you live in order to get your eyes tested. Following your eye test, your optician is by law obliged to give you a written copy of your prescription.

There's a chance they'll will try to avoid doing so, as this leave you free to buy eyewear elsewhere. In order to help you overcome this we have suggested how to respond:

It's the law. You have to give me my written prescription immediately following my eye test.
My work needs it - receipt isn't enough for them to pay for my eye test.
My doctor wants a copy.

Remember – you've paid for your prescription. It's yours, and you have every right to it.

One other important aspect of your prescription you should request is your PD or pupillary distance measurement in your prescription. It's not part of the eye test itself but it's worth getting if you can, as this is key in achieving a perfect fitment.

*These time limits are recommended by joint committees of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians, the Association of Optometrists, and the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians because your eyesight may well change over time.
